Which adapter do I need?
Any ELM327-compatible adapter with Bluetooth LE (Bluetooth 4.0 or newer), for example Vgate iCar Pro BLE 4.0, Veepeak OBDCheck BLE, vLinker BLE models or OBDLink CX. On iPhone, classic Bluetooth adapters (the cheap blue "ELM327 v1.5" boxes) do not work because iOS does not allow apps to use them.
How do I connect?
- Plug the adapter into the OBD port in the driver footwell, left of the steering column.
- Switch the ignition on (engine running or Start button pressed twice without the brake).
- Open OpenBimmer, tap Connect in the Garage tab and choose your adapter.
The app finds the adapter but the car does not answer
Make sure the ignition is on and the adapter sits firmly in the port. Some clones need a few seconds after plugging in. The adapter console in More shows the raw traffic; please attach it to bug reports.
Can it flash tunes or code my car?
No. OpenBimmer only reads standardised OBD-II data and can clear engine fault codes on request. It never writes software or coding to the car.
Try it without a car
Open Connect and choose "Try the demo adapter". It simulates an engine so you can explore every screen.
